Power of Relationship Repair, Dr. Cedar Barstow
“Is there anything else you need now for our relationship to feel repaired?”
This is the last piece of the RUP 5-Step Resolving Difficulties process.
I find that this question is usually experienced by my clients/students with both relief and interest. In fact, one of my students wept when I asked her this question. She said that no one had ever, during a conflict with her, demonstrated such concern for the future. Even when the particular conflict had been resolved, she said, it seemed that the on-going relationship never normalized again.
Asking about repair acknowledges your confidence in repair and the value you place on the future relationship. People yearn to be connected and valued. Personal experience with relationship repair instead of relationship loss is touching and restorative.
