Power With Heart Exploring Personal Power in Nature with Cedar Barstow

During this day-long program, we will be exploring power as the ability to have an effect or to have influence. We will be rooting into our personal power and learning from the powers of nature. Grounded in a wild and special place in nature, with an intimate group of good humans, the day will be experiential, playful, dynamic, fun, deep, interesting, and will provide a unique experience of being together on the land with this particular focus.

The core of our day will involve making a power object that embodies the relationship you want to have with power — in relationship with yourself, with nature and with others. You will leave more connected to yourself and to the natural world, and with an increased capacity for using power with wisdom and skill.

This program is open to everyone (whether you’ve been to Tinaja Ridge before or not), and will be an opportunity to experience the land, our overall orientation to monthly practice days, as well as a special opportunity to learn with Dr. Cedar Barstow, founder of the Right Use of Power Institute.

Facilitators: 

Dr. Cedar Barstow is the Founder and Executive Director Emerita of the Right Use of Power Institute. As a consultant and teacher on ethics and ethical issues, she has been designing, developing, and teaching this approach since 1994. Cedar’s background includes 30 years as a psychotherapist and 25 years as a teacher.

Cedar is the author of books and articles on ethics, counseling with elders, women and independence, and psychotherapy and spirituality. She is also a Hakomi Experiential Psychology Trainer and a member of the Naropa University Adjunct Faculty.

She maintains a private psychotherapy and ethics consulting practice in Boulder/Denver and teaches both Right Use of Power™ and Hakomi nationally and internationally.

Lauren Golten, MS, MA, LPC Lauren is a nature-based therapist and a group facilitator, informed by the lineages of Matrix Leadership, the Wild Mind model of Animas Valley Institute, and the Work That Reconnects, among others. Her former study and practice of ecology, wildlife biology and her love of natural history inform her relationship with the land and her work. She currently works with individuals in her private practice and leads nature-based group programs through the Wild Heart Center. Her group work offers a place of refuge to practice a broader kind of paying attention to the world, to exploring and developing a sense of belonging, and to creating meaningful community. Emily Duhaime, BFA, MA Emily Duhaime has been a dreamer, an artist and a magic-maker since early childhood, and these are inextricably interwoven in all aspects of her world. Emily is a soulful & creative life coach, art therapist, mentor, guide, artist, dreamer and intuitive. Trained as a transpersonal psychotherapist and art therapist, she had a private practice as a licensed transpersonal art psychotherapist for over 20 years. She currently provides soul-centered life coaching through art therapy, dreamwork, plant spirit guidance, self-designed ceremony support and deep listening journeys to those individuals who are called to step deeply in, bridging their everyday and spiritual selves.
