Book Tour Stop: Right Use of Power for Human Resources

September 16th @ 9:00 am - 4:00 pm MDT

HR professionals sit at the centre of some of the most complex and high-stakes human dynamics in organizations.

Whether working in recruitment, employee relations, organizational development, learning and development, compensation, workplace investigations, or people and culture functions, HR professionals are regularly navigating situations involving conflict, performance concerns, interpersonal tension, organizational change, and sensitive interpersonal issues.

At the same time, they are often balancing competing priorities: supporting employees, advising leaders, ensuring compliance, protecting organizational integrity, and maintaining trust across all levels of the system. This work frequently happens in environments shaped by pressure, ambiguity, emotional intensity, and competing expectations.

In these environments, the right use of power matters deeply.

Every policy, process, conversation, and decision in HR carries influence. Whether it is intended or not, HR professionals are constantly engaging with power – how it is held, how it is used, how it is perceived, and how it impacts trust, safety, and accountability in the workplace.

Right Use of Power™ is a dynamic, relational, and practical approach to the ethical use of power to promote well-being, the common good, and right relationship. It offers a shared language and framework for understanding and navigating power with both strength and care.

This approach is a conscious ethics deep dive that recognizes the complexity of power dynamics in organizations and the pivotal role HR plays in shaping them.

Right Use of Powerâ„¢ programs focus on increasing awareness, skillfulness, and engagement in the use of power – particularly in situations where relationships, accountability, and organizational systems intersect.

It is ethics from the inside out.

This in-person training in Calgary is brought to you in collaboration with the Nonprofit Chamber, the Right Use of Power Institute, All Thrive, and the team at The Ally Co.

Join us for a full-day, engaging, and hands-on learning experience designed to deepen your understanding of power in organizational life and strengthen your ability to navigate the human dynamics at the heart of HR work.

Empowering, relevant, and practical, this program is delivered through engaging presentations, facilitated discussions, and experiential learning practices that connect directly to real workplace situations.

Lineup

Dr. Amanda Aguilera

Let’s talk about power! I’m Dr. Amanda Aguilera, and I support individuals and organizations in navigating the dynamics of power that shape our lives, our work, and our relationships. As the Executive Director of the Right Use of Power Institute, I advocate for a world where we participate in power in ways that bring us closer to right relationship. I believe we often lose connection to ourselves and others when striving for perfection—when we are trying to fit into systems instead of cultivating belonging within ourselves. Whether I’m speaking on a stage, working 1:1 as a power-conscious guide, leading the Right Use of Power Institute, or sharing the framework in my new book, Shaping Power for Good: Wayfinding to Right Relationship, my mission is to move us toward more authentic connection.

Jeff Couillard

I help organizations build leaderful teams – teams where power is used wisely, trust is practiced daily, and people are equipped to navigate the real tensions of modern work. My work sits at the intersection of leadership development, team facilitation, and organizational culture. I’ve had the privilege of supporting leaders at TC Energy, the City of Calgary and the Calgary Fire Department, Electronic Arts, Bayer, Hull Services, and other mission-driven organizations across sectors. I design and deliver learning experiences that are practical, participatory, and immediately operational – whether through executive workshops, keynote speaking, immersive team sessions, or long-term leadership development programs. My approach is grounded in the Right Use of Power, deep coaching practice, and over a decade of work in addiction and mental health, where clarity, compassion, and accountability are non-negotiable.

Leah Fink

My passion is supporting employees’ mental health in the workplace. With All Thrive, I develop leadership and culture transformations that focus on advancing communication skills, deepening team connection and engagement, and shifting inefficient systems. Mental health isn’t just an individual issue. Workplace culture and leadership have a huge impact, and I love supporting leaders to ensure that the impact they are having is a positive one!
