Actually, last week I was talking about this with a priest that consider that he can totally get off the scarf and that his “influence” depends totally on the context and what the conversation is about. (This is a priest that does not dress as one when he is outside the functions of the role, as you know there are many, most of them actually, are dressed as priest all the time).
In this regard, I beleive that needs more relfections and the nuances coming from how the parishioners perceive you even outside the role.

Whao Thea, I am re-reading your comments and they are so rich that it took me a couple of readings to grasp everything.
Actually, after these comments, I am trying to go deeper into this. However it is a fact that is not easy to access Catholic priests outside of their role functions.
I am looking forward to dive into this !

Thank you for your refined reflections Thea. This issue of “taking off the scarf” is something I am aware that is not possible for Catholic Priests. They are never out of the “role” of priest, as the sacrament made them “become the role”, there is a total identification with it.
I am looking forward to spend time with some priests and see how they live the fact that they cannot “take of the scarf” completely.
