DESCRIPTION:Technology\, like power\, is neutral.  It is how we use it that determines when it is harmful or helpful.  And\, like most things\, social media is a strong mixture of both.  Our time will begin with a recorded conversation between Cedar and Batia\, a high school senior\, talking about her and her friends’ perspective and experience with social media–both the positives and the negatives for them as teenagers.  We will use this conversation to talk further about the challenges of distraction and addictiveness and ways to work with these in a power-conscious way.  What awareness\, strategies\, skills can we share with each other?\n\n\nCedar Barstow and Batia Rose Wilson \n \nCedar Barstow is the founder and executive director emerita of Right Use of Power Institute. She has had a long interest in the power of the internet and social media–and how it impacts our sense of personal power in relationships\, how it impacts our use of time\, and how it impacts our understanding of truth and reality. She is concerned for herself and for the next generations. Batia Rose Wilson is entering her senior year in high school and has been engaging with social media and focusing on how to use it in healthy\, life-affirming ways. Both Cedar and Batia live in Boulder\, Colorado.

The Core Training is for people who are ready to dive deeper into all of the types of power. Over the last 25 years Susan has worked with thousands of leaders in the US\, Canada and Europe to cultivate mindfulness and authenticity\, strengthen relational\, coaching and strategic skills\, and effectively lead the changes they want to see in their organizations and in the world.  She has a unique ability to create energetic and high trust learning environments that accelerate the achievement of practical organizational results while building strong\, collaborative relationships.  Formerly a Vice-President and Chief Learning Officer in the technology sector and an international consultant\, she was also the founder and Director of the Authentic Leadership Center at Naropa University.  She enjoys hiking\, biking and watercolor painting. \n  \nKi Smith \n \nKi Smith\, she/they (Boulder\, CO) is an IFS Informed Contemplative Psychotherapist\, facilitator\, mediator\, and coach in the realm of compassionate communication\, power-consciousness\, and conflict transformation. In her private practice\, Warrior Wisdom\, Ki works with individuals and people in intimate relationships of all kinds who want to heal relationally by learning how to turn towards inner and outer conflict whenever possible with slowness\, curiosity\, kindness\, and the intention to hold that multiple truths are possible and probable. She also offers a 12-week course which builds these skills and is rooted in the integration of The Right Use of PowerTM\, Nonviolent Communication\, and Internal Family Systems\, entitled “Language for the Open-Hearted Warrior.” \n \nKi is passionate about co-creating beloved community with others\, understanding the integral role this plays in transformational healing of intrapersonal\, interpersonal and systemic suffering. She believes that the heart of healing ourselves and our world is coming home to the truth: we each and all inherently belong–and that we truly need one another to re-member this truth.

By learning about Heart-Centered Leadership\, we are more likely to help create the beloved community – a future that benefits all. \n  \nNote from Cedar:  Since RUP is about centering power with heart\, Jacob is an ally with his focus on supporting LGBTQ+ leaders in both common leadership needs and some specialized ones.  He will help us broaden our perspective about how to use our differences and various identities for connection. \n  \nJacob Rudolph \n \n  \nJacob Rudolph made international headlines in 2013 when a video of him coming out in front of more than 300 of his classmates went viral with over 2\,000\,000 views on YouTube. Inspired to continue speaking up\, Jacob successfully assisted local civil rights groups that same year in passing a state law that bans conversion therapy on LGBTQ+ youth in New Jersey. Since then\, he has been selected for the Point Foundation Scholarship\, the John Lewis Fellowship\, was the commencement speaker at his college graduation– University of Miami\, 2017. He has served as Executive Director of The Pride Network since 2018\, and was named to the 2020 Forbes 30 Under 30: Law & Policy list. He is currently studying Classical Five-Element Acupuncture at the Institute of Taoist Education and Acupuncture in Louisville.

She continues to guide a multi-year effort to transform organizational culture around equity and inclusion across multiple geographies\, and is experienced in strategy development\, evaluation and learning\, facilitation\, and multi-stakeholder collaboration. \nShe is a certified coach through Leadership That Works\, a graduate of Right Use of Power Institute’s teacher training\, and a Qualified Administrator for the Intercultural Development Inventory. She is also an experienced meditator and currently studying the application of Buddhist contemplative psychology toward psychosocial change efforts.

It is ethics from the inside out. \nOur Basics Training is a 5-hour live\, online global learning experience for people who want to deepen their understanding of power and start to learn how to use power with strength and heart. She is also a consultant and facilitator in the area of power-and-equity consciousness and conflict resolution. Driven by her core values of curiosity\, courage\, and connection\, Amanda is adept at putting things together innew ways\, creating visuals that help make learning more accessible\, and communicating complex ideas in simple ways. \nAmanda has a commitment to be courageous in the service of reducing and repairing harm in relationship and promoting the cultural shift toward power-and-equity consciousness\, conflict positivity and conflict competency. \nAt the core of her academic and personal passion is the advancement in understanding social power dynamics and deepening the personal and collective uses of power in the world with wisdom and compassion. \nHer doctoral dissertation focused on the dynamics of shame and power in the justice system and she continues to develop theoretical models in the intrapersonal and interpersonal experiences of power dynamics\, including the integration of neurobiology\, contemplative practices and restorative practices as they relate to power differentials.

She is the owner and founder of All Thrive\, contributing author to the Art of Connection\, and the host of the weekly live show Your Mind-Your Reality-Your Results. She holds an applied degree in Ecotourism and Outdoor Leadership (ETOL)\, and a diploma in Social Work\, both from Mount Royal University\, and is currently a registered social worker. Her work and volunteer experience has focused on helping people understand more about themselves\, and grow their confidence. This also includes working with youth in a wilderness based addiction and mental health program. Later\, Leah went on to supervise that program\, where she focused on program development and growing her facilitation skills as she trained multiple staff teams. She is now the owner of All Thrive\, where she helps people and businesses develop their skilfulness in personal and professional relationships. She is certified in True Colors personality typology\, and the Right Use of Power (effectively using power dynamics).
